Project AngelFaces is a multifaceted social service organization working to improve quality of life in our community by providing fresh fruits and vegetables to our elders, youth and intellectually challenged citizens in need. At Project AngelFaces, we believe in there is such abundance in the world; there is more than enough for all citizens to have access to healthful nutrition to support healthy lives. Project AngelFaces practices the art of sharing our valley’s bounty of fresh fruits and vegetables. There are currently four programs working to meet these goals within our organization.
(1) FOOD RECOVERY: Assisted by volunteers {the Host of Angels}, we collect local, neighborhood-grown fruits and vegetables and donate the harvest to existing social service providers who care for seniors and youth;
(2) COMMUNITY SUPPORT: Project AngelFaces provides this service through organic gardening education. There are currently two vines in this program. Project AngelFaces operates an original program in conjunction with New Vista Community, a collective of high-functioning intellectually challenged individuals. The program increases quality of life for this often stigmatized community by providing opportunities for active fun and friendship with non-challenged members of the greater community through training in organic gardening. The program will soon provide opportunities to earn income through organic gardening for participating residents of New Vista Ranch. Project AngelFaces also operates Garden Club for at-risk youth with the cooperation of Clark County Recreation Center at Whitney Recreation Center. At Garden Club Meetings, at-risk youth ages 6-12 learn about nutrition and organic gardening through playful discovery with healthful foods.
(3) ORGANIC GARDENS: Through the generosity of landowners throughout the valley who donate land and water, Project AngelFaces installs, manages and maintains organic gardens dedicated to growing fresh vegetables for our community’s elders and youth. 100% of the produce grown in these gardens is donated directly to feed elders and youth in need.
(4) TRIBAL GARDENS: Project AngelFaces provides consultation and management services to collectives of friends, neighbors, or members of a spiritual community, {a TRIBE}, who wish to install and tend an organic garden for the purpose of feeding their households.
When we consume locally grown food, we lessen the burden on the global community to provide for our needs. When we share what we have readily available to us, we increase our ability to be a healthier, happier citizenry.
